Jeffrey Mishlove PhD is the owner and host of New Thinking Allowed. He is also the 1st prize winner of the BICS essay contest.
I was delighted to work with Jeff and new guest presenter Emmy Vadnais on an episode of New Thinking Allowed. Emmy and I discussed several juicy questions including:
It’s not always the case that the person with the greatest need gets to hear from their loved one. Why is that?
Can my deceased spouse see me with my new partner?
Should I be worried about what I’m opening myself up to if I develop my mediumship?
But the aspect of our conversation that excited me the most was about collapsing the distinctions between medium and sitter until they are one in the same thing.
The best way for you to experience the reality of the spirit world is to see for yourself. Not through me. Not through a medium. But by turning your attention towards your innate connection to all that is - your own capacity for mediumship.
When you give a mind-blowing piece of information on behalf of spirit, and you know it arrived in your awareness by extraordinary means, it can be truly life-changing. You realize that you are more loved than you thought, more powerful than you know, and more closely guided than you ever dreamed possible. The first-hand, felt experience of giving a message, offers the most compelling answer to the question:
Can we really survive death?
Because there is zero room for doubt. In that moment, you feel yourself to be a collaborator with a higher power.
There is no, ‘yeah but it could be fake, or she could’ve looked me up on Facebook, or it could be the sitter’s wishful thinking.’
Those explanations just seem so hollow, so small, so far away. Able to be upheld only by those who have never felt what it is like to collaborate with spirit and give a message.
This is why I recommend that ‘non-mediums’ try mediumship. The only way to know for sure is to see for yourself.
You may think, ‘but I’m not a medium.’ That’s fair. But is it really true?
I believe that anyone who has some capacity for empathy, has some capacity for mediumship.
Start where the love is - with your own loved ones who’ve passed. Can you feel them around you? Can you request a meeting in a dream and have your request met? Can you receive a sign or a message directly?
When they were alive, you loved them directly. You did not need me or any other to speak on their behalf. I believe that you can still love them directly, it’s just a matter of understanding that the love you have for each other was never dependent on your bodies. It was always a communion of spirit.
Much of your love may have been facilitated by your bodies - touch, words, time spent together - but underneath that, you were always two transcendent souls loving each other, using your bodies as tools for affection.
Are you curious to see what your spirit can do? To see if you have a touch of the medium in you? If so, check out this interview for more tips!
Now, I’d love to hear from you. Why have you come to be interested in mediumship at this point in your life?
