Bigelow Institute for Consciousness Studies (BICS) has announced $1 million in funding for researchers working on proving the existence of the afterlife.
The announcement comes after the success of their 2021 essay contest which saw 29 essayists awarded cash prizes ranging from $10,000 to $500,000. Each essayist answered the question:
What is the best available evidence for the survival of human consciousness after permanent bodily death?
The top prize was won by New Thinking Allowed’s Jeffrey Mishlove.
BICS aims to fuel new projects that will reignite the field of afterlife research, and herald a new wave of evidence. ‘The Challenge’ is looking to award up to $50,000 to twelve different projects, and up to $100,000 each to a further four projects.
The aim of The Challenge is two-fold: First, it asks researchers to develop experimental protocols that will establish contact and communication with post-mortem consciousness. Second: experiments must be geared towards ‘wisdom acquisition’ from discarnate entities.
In a statement from their website, BICS writes that, ‘[we] hope the results from the first challenge are going to be so productive and fascinating that we could expand greatly on future projects.’
The Challenge is currently the largest funding program in the field of survival research in the world, and if resulting projects produce compelling results, BICS intention is to fund future rounds that build upon the initial 2023-24 intake.
Applications are open to individuals and groups with the relevant experience and qualifications, the only stipulation being that projects must focus on:
Afterlife communication
Knowledge acquisition from discarnate sources
Applicants are invited to submit a budgeted, preliminary proposal between November 2022 and January 2023. The proposal must detail why the project is both necessary and novel, and must explain the experimental protocols. It must also detail the cost of the project, and tie the costs to deliverable milestones. And finally, applicants must submit detailed bios and a list of relevant qualifications.
Think you’ve got what it takes to do science with the spirit world?
Applications open on November 1st. Find out more here and apply!
